It's Official

Looks like it is finally official. I have received my PGA Apprentice card and been accepted into Level 1 of the PGA PGM program. I will also be doing most if not all of the Golf Lessons this year where I work:

Well, the All Star Game was a lot of fun even though we had to cut it short. I really enjoyed everything that went on for both days, and heard the same from the other players. It was a good day for me winning the HR Derby, and hitting a HR in the game as well. I was amazed at how much everyone got into the game. Looks like we are starting to play a little better. Everyone is starting to accept what they need to do to win. Hopefully tonight we can get a look at the new players we just got. I am interested to see just how we are going to use everyone. By the way has anyone noticed the new patchwork on the field that almost blew out Van Rossoms' knee. I don't know what the deal is but the field is in terrible shape this year. I know we had the ice rink, but they bulldozed all of it and started over. I don't see why it is in such bad shape...all over, not just the patches. I sure hope it gets fixed by the All-Star game, because if you are showcasing your field it doesn't show much on your part if the playing surface is terrible.

New Homestand

Well, the series in Newark went really well for us, winning all three. Looks like we may finally be playing up to our potential. Hopefully we can keep it up againest Camden. We signed a new utility guy over the weekend. Hopefully we can add a couple more pieces we need to really compete againest the rest of this league. We still need another righty in the bullpen, and another power bat in the lineup.

Steroids and HGH?????

I know there has been a lot of talk lately about steroids and HGH in the Atlantic League since the person in Nashua said the AL is dirty and the Can-am is "crystal clean". Personally, anyone who wants to get me tested for anything I would be happy to accomodate you since I have never used either, and I am serious about the testing. Not to mention most guys in the league don't have the money or resources to get it the way MLB players have. Yes, I know there are some who can afford it, but the majority can't. From my standpoint, the league is very clean from the steroids and HGH, I have not seen either. I played with guys in the past who I had known was taking stuff, but that was in every league, and yes I played in the Can-AM league as well. Guys are too scared to use stuff now with the 50 game suspensions for first offenses, and I am glad since it has leveled the playing field for those of us who abide by the rules. I am sure I will get a lot of questions on this and would be happy to answer them, since I don't want to be associated with that whole steroid subject.

Having some computer issues

Hey, sorry I haven't been posting anything. I have had a bit of trouble with the computer I have ben using, it has just been resetting everytime I click something. I hope to have it all corrected soon, don't worry Scott. I just think I got a small bug from one of the blog sites I check. Anyways, the team is starting to do better and hopefully it will continue. Hey everyone, don't really know what to say about everything. Losing Delgado hurts, I was hoping we were going to use him more. We aren't winning any games, that sucks, and I don't know if we are going to get anyone to replace Clyde or Dario. I don't see how we are supposed to win without replacing what we lost in those two. Anyways, I am very frustrated at the situation, it just seems like there is not a big concern to replace the bats we lost in the lineup. It's pretty bad when people on the other team ask you if you have a bunch of players hurt or something. I know we have good players here that can play, we just need some help to fill in the holes we have. I hope we get it soon because I hat losing like this.

Just clearing the air

I just want to say one thing. I am not trying to run the team, nor am I trying to undermine Frank. I am just expressing my opinions on the season. Anyone who thinks I am trying to do anything other than that is taking this whole blog thing a little to seriously. I am just giving an avenue for people to get to the team in a way that hasn't been there in the past. I have not talked down any of my teammates at all, and if you look back through my archive you will see that I thought Delgado should be playing on a regular basis before the season even started. He is a good hitter with a proven track record in this league. Whether he should DH or be at 3rd base doesn't matter. It is hard to leave a guy on the bench with his ability when we need offensive help, that is all I am saying. As for any other decisions players always have ideas on what could work better, if you don't you never learn anything about this game. It is always good to question moves or substitutions, it makes you more knowledgable about the game. Anyways, we have a few things to work on and hopefully we can get it all sorted out.

Off to a rough start

Wow, what a crappy road trip. After losing 3 games in Long Island we really need to get on the ball and turn this thing around. I think our biggest problem right now is just putting too many guys on base via walks and being hit by pitches. I think we also need to replace the production we would have gotten from Clyde. I have been a big advocator of having Dario Delgado in the line up everyday. He is a good hitter and has hit the ball well in every game he has played in, so I can't see why he is not in there. I hope he gets a chance to play more regularly. Anyways, we have some things to fix and hopefully we will take care of it soon.

1st series of the year a success

Well the first series of the year is over and we won 2 out of 3. Even though we got beat pretty bad in the last game, we had a lot of positives. We all must still remember that it is very early in the season, and players are still going to be inconsistent at this point in the season. You just can jump into the first game and be in midseason form. We have a long season and will have a really good team. I thought everyone played very hard and showed the promise our team has. Please give all of the new guys a chance to get going and also give the returning players some time to get comfortable at the plate and in the field.

Hey, hope everybody enjoyed the game last night. It was nice to get off to a good start for everybody, especially since we didn't use our normal lineup. I thought Rob pitched very well, and we had a lot of good hitting by everyone. Hopefully tonights game will go as well as last nights game.

Opening Night

Well, it's opening night here in Lancasaster!! Unfortunately I was not able to update the site over spring training. I did'nt have a computer and to add to the problem when I borrowed one we only had wireless internet which was spotty at best.

We had a good spring training in Lakeland. Anyone reading stuff about the games who are worryied about our hitting or pitching; realize that it is spring training and all it is for is to get ready. Wins and losses, batting averages, and ERA's dont mean anything. We will have a great season this year with the players we have. It was interesting how everything worked out though. Gustavo Martinez never made it here, he had VISA problems, Clayton Andrews had personal problems and won't be be till the 24th, although he was there for a day, and Rene Aqueron was traded before making an appearance with us. I was also surprised that we kept 25 players after being told we would only carry 23 as well.

I hope everyone is excited about opening night, we have our ring ceremony tonight as well before the game. Hopefully we can have as good of a season as last year...I will be trying to update this as much as I can throughout the season, but may have times I can't get to it as quickly as I would like to, so please bear with me.

Spring Training First Day

We started with headshots at 8:30
9:00 baserunning refresher course
10:00 Stretch, 3 lap warmup, intersquad game for six pitchers.
Henkel, Stevens, Evert, Pennington, DePriest, and Lira all threw today.
Infield Lineup was Burkhart, Todd, Hart, Gonzalez, Van Note, Foster, Williams, Hileman

12:10 Broke for lunch

2:00 Batting Practice in cages for 60 minutes.

It was a long day for the first day, and we are doing it all again tomorrow.

Another side note, Rene Aqueron was sent to Camden today. He never even made an appearance with us today before being delt.

Another thing to note Rob Henkel had an interesting off-season purchasing a rock quarry in addition to other business ventures. Told Rob I would let everyone know...

Just to remind everyone I will being doing player profiles later in the season so everyone can learn a little more about the players.

Potentially really big news coming from the team

Hey everyone, just wanted to pass on some info about the team I heard today. I believe we have already begun the shift of players for the season. Meaning that we have already lost a big arm in our pitching staff. i can't say who yet, but am sure it weill be announced very soon. I believe we are going to bring in someone else, but am not positive. I think he is just hanging them up, since he wasn't signed by anyone or hurt to my knowledge. Check back and I will let you know when I can.

Also, I need to know what to write about during the season. Please let me know you suggestions...

JUTT AT 7 TO GIVE BURKHART SOMEONE TO DRIVE IN CONSISTENTLY THAT WILL BE ON BASE.

BURKHART AT 8, THE SECOND CLEAN UP GUY, PLUS TIME AND REST BEING THE CATCHER.

Just to let everyone know, I am done working in the baseball office for the off-season. Today is the first day for me to get serious about gettitng ready for the season. I am really looking forward to being outside and playing ball. I think our roster speaks for itself and I know everyone is excited about the season. I can only think though, that with us winning last year and the type of players we have a lot of scouting should be going on at Clipper Magazine Stadium. I hope we do well for the town but I also hope a lot of us players get picked up and show what they are capable of in affiliated ball. I feel bad for Charlie since I know how 28 and A-ball usually works out. It seems that pitchers are evaluated differently than pos players regarding age and levels. I talked to Quincy last night and he just found out that a very talented 3B was released from the Giants org. So maybe we aren't done signing yet.

Hey everyone, just wanted to pass along that I talked to our PR guy and he said we would be announcing the signings of 7 player for the Barnstormers today. Hopefully, this will take care of all the rumors about who is going to be back. Although, I know of someone here last year possibly coming back that could really help out our pitching staff...and it is not Denny!! He is retired 100% not coming back.

I know that the player who did not want their name to be released has given the team the o.k. to do so. I talked to him yesterday fro about 20 min, and he is really excited to be here for this season. This guy should make a big impact for our team and I for one am glad to see him back with the team. The team should be announcing him and the others today or very soon, but they have a couple other things going on this week so they might push it back to get press next week. I can understand why they do this, but it is still surprising to me that they would sit on players for so long without announcing them. I think we have done the best with signing players, however, all of the B.A.S.A. teams look good. Even Bridgeport, even if they haven't signed as many as other teams. They have a decent nucleus, so we will see. If I was the Manager, which I am not here is what my starting lineup would be on opening day with certain players left off for now.

New Agency

Just wanted to show you the new agency I have. They are changing their name from Core Sports Management to Verius Football to tie into the parent company of Verius Sports. They represent a lot of MLB players as well as football. The President/my agents name is Justin Van Fulpen.

Hey guys, we finally released some more players, and here they are:

There is still one big name coming soon that will make a big impact on our team, plus 1 more that has signed as of now, they should come out pretty soon.

Let me know what you all think about these signings good or bad. Personally, i am pretty excited about the season with who we have so far.

I just got word of 2 possibly 3 very big signings for us. if these go through we are looking really good for the season for position players. Our pitching staff is shaping up though we need some more starting pitching, bullpen is looking good. There are 2 unknowns in the bunch but sound promising.

Hey guys, we had at least 1 more player agree to terms with the team this past week. So, that brings us up to 12 players, so far. There is one more I know of coming to spring training as well that I played with in the Dodger system last year, but haven't heard back from him yet...

Barnstormers taking shape

Just to let you all know the team is beginning to take shape, we currently have 11 players agreed to contracts. Plus, hopefully, 3 more coming soon. Can't say who they are though, they will be released soon. I also know there are fireworks and code red opening night, plus possibly a couple giveaways but they are not confirmed yet.

Nothing new really going on with the team or anything else, I think the team will be releasing players that signed slowly. That way there is always something going on with the team. I know of 3 more players that have agreed for sure, and a couple more pending trades. Can't tell you who though.

They are doing very well this year, currently 9-1 with a pre season ranking of #24 in NAIA.
NAIA and NCAA D-1 both have up to 12 Scholarships, more than NCAA D-2 or D-3. Many NAIA schools whip up on NCAA D-1 schools from time to time.

Rebuilding the lineup

We’ve already discussed the rotation and the challenge of finding good pitching. Today, we’ll look at the lineup. Everyone knows the Atlantic League primarily belongs to the hitters and Clipper Magazine Stadium is a left-handed batters paradise. What else is there to know?
The Barnstormers scored 694 runs or 5.5 a game last season. They ranked second in the league behind Long Island. Bridgeport was the only other team to crack the 600-run mark at 637. The Barnstormers also hit 147 homers — 23 more than any rival — and drew a league-best 513 walks. In short, Lancaster hit for power and reached base better than anyone. This was a terrific offensive team.
Here was the lineup in the championship series against Bridgeport with on-base, slugging and OPS stats:

2. Jason Bowers, SS: .352/.432/.784
3. Jeremy Todd, 1B: .444/.601/1.045
4. Jose Ortiz, 3B: .356/.497/.853

Some observations …
Todd was in another world. He led the team in on-base, slugging and his OPS was nearly 100 points higher than anyone else. Putting one supremely productive hitter into a lineup makes a dramatic difference. It can lift a weak-hitting team into the middle of the pack or it can take a good lineup and make it elite.
Crozier and Gonzalez were better than anyone seemed to realize. Gonzalez provided a .400 on-base percentage while rotating between SS and 2B. Crozier’s homer and RBI stats weren’t impressive, but his rate stats were excellent.
Once Quincy Foster left and Taylor moved into the leadoff role, the Barnstormers had the best No. 1 hitter in the league. With Taylor in front of Todd, they frequently pounced on pitchers when they were most vulnerable — in the first inning — and grabbed early leads. Scoring first is paramount to winning.
There was great balance. The Barnstormers could go lefty-righty all the way through with Gonzalez, a switch hitter, at the bottom.
Where do the Barnstormers stand for 2007? Well, they’re off to a great start because Todd is back. Burkhart is also expected to return. His .777 OPS is solid for a catcher, especially at this level. Hileman and Gonzalez are also strong possibilities to re-sign. Hileman could shift to CF and Gonzalez to SS, meaning the team has already filled its premium defensive positions.
What do the Barnstormers need?
Corner outfielder with power
Corner outfielder to hit leadoff
A third baseman to replace Ortiz (now in Mexico)
A second baseman to replace Travis Hake (now with York)
In an ideal world, the Barnstormers need one power lefty bat and one power righty bat. Even though they want to build their team for the Clip, they play 54 road games and will need to hit in places like Camden and Newark as well. A slugger to replace Ortiz’s production is essential.
Even though the Barnstormers only have one (announced) player under contract, they’re not in bad shape in terms of building their everyday lineup. But they still have a long way to go to match the group that took the field at the end of 2006. As the lineup above shows, that was the league’s best offense and it was the primary reason Lancaster won it all.
